Is Meniere's disease dangerous?

The condition itself affects inner-ear hearing and balance, but an attack can make the room spin, impair walking, and cause nausea. This raises the risk of falling, especially near stairs, traffic, water, or machinery. Ongoing hearing changes may affect communication and awareness of surrounding sounds. Because dizziness and hearing loss have many causes, a new pattern should not be labelled as Meniere's disease without assessment.

During vertigo, sit or lie down in a safe place and keep your head movements gentle. Do not drive, climb, swim alone, or use machinery until you are steady.
