Can Meniere's disease be cured?

The condition affects the inner ear, where hearing and balance signals are handled. Episodes may involve vertigo, ringing in the ears, a blocked feeling, or changing hearing. Some people have long quiet periods between attacks. Treatment aims to make episodes less disruptive, identify hearing changes, and support safe movement. Improvement does not necessarily mean the underlying condition has disappeared.

Arrange a GP Consultation if symptoms are recurring or affecting work, driving, walking, or communication. A clinician may review your pattern and arrange a Hearing Test. Keep a record of spinning episodes, ear symptoms, possible triggers, medicines, and recovery time. During vertigo, sit or lie somewhere safe, avoid driving, and ask someone to stay nearby if you feel unsteady. Follow prescribed treatment and discuss hearing or balance support if symptoms continue.

Seek urgent medical help for sudden hearing loss, new weakness, facial drooping, trouble speaking, fainting, severe headache, chest pain, or difficulty walking that does not settle. These features can have causes other than Meniere's disease. Get prompt assessment after a head injury, repeated vomiting, or an episode that is unusually severe or prolonged.
