What should you know about MEBO scar treatment for burns?

A fresh burn, an open wound, and a healed burn scar need different care. Scar tissue may be raised, tight, itchy, darker, lighter, or sensitive, and it can restrict movement when it crosses a joint. A topical product should not be applied to a deep, infected, or open wound without clinical direction. The depth of the original burn, healing time, location, skin tension, and current scar behaviour all affect the plan. A product that feels soothing does not necessarily remodel established scar tissue.

Do not pick, scratch, or rub the area. Keep a healing wound covered as advised and protect healed skin from sun exposure. Take photographs in consistent lighting and note itch, pain, growth, colour change, and any movement restriction. Have a clinician examine the scar before starting, combining, or occluding products. Depending on the scar, discussion may include specialist wound care, fractional laser treatment, scar revision surgery, or a skin graft; each has different timing and suitability.

Seek prompt assessment for increasing redness, warmth, swelling, drainage, fever, worsening pain, wound reopening, or reduced movement. Urgent care is needed after a new significant burn, inhalation injury, electrical or chemical exposure, or burns involving the face, hands, genitals, or a major joint. A changing, bleeding, or persistently ulcerated scar also deserves review.
