A fractional CO2 laser delivers ablative energy in a pattern of tiny columns rather than removing the entire surface layer. The treated columns trigger wound healing and collagen remodeling, while untreated skin between them helps the area recover. Clinicians may use this approach for acne scars, uneven texture, selected surgical scars, fine lines, and some pigment concerns. It is not suitable for every skin tone or active skin condition. The device settings, treatment depth, number of sessions, and anaesthesia plan should be tailored to the target and the risk of pigment change.

Tell the clinician about recent tanning, cold sores, acne, eczema, keloid scars, medicines, and previous procedures. Follow instructions about pausing irritating products and preventing sun exposure. After treatment, expect redness, heat, swelling, crusting, or peeling for a period that varies with intensity. Cleanse as directed, keep the skin moist with the recommended product, do not pick, and use broad-spectrum sun protection once advised. Avoid heat, swimming, heavy exercise, and fragranced products until the surface has recovered.
