What should you know about left neck pain and headache?

Neck muscles and joints can refer pain into the back of the head, temple, or behind the eye. Long periods looking down, an awkward sleeping position, stress, or a Muscle Strain may produce stiffness and a headache that changes with neck movement. Repeated screen posture is sometimes called Text Neck. Neck arthritis, a disc problem, or Cervical Radiculopathy may be considered when pain travels into the shoulder or arm, or when tingling, numbness, or weakness appears.

After a collision or sudden force, Whiplash can cause delayed soreness and headache. A clinician may assess neck movement, nerve function, posture, vision symptoms, and the headache pattern. One-sided pain does not by itself identify the cause.

Take regular screen breaks, bring the screen toward eye level, and change position often rather than holding the neck rigid. Gentle neck movement within a comfortable range may be preferable to forceful stretching or manipulation. A wrapped warm or cold pack can be tried for a short period, depending on which feels better. Use medicines only as directed and check for interactions or health reasons to avoid them.

Keep a diary of headache timing, neck posture, sleep, light sensitivity, nausea, arm symptoms, and any injury. This helps distinguish a movement-related pattern from a headache needing separate assessment. Arrange review if symptoms recur or interfere with sleep, work, or ordinary activity.

Seek emergency help for a sudden severe headache, headache after significant injury, fainting, confusion, seizure, fever with a stiff neck, new vision or speech trouble, facial drooping, or weakness or numbness on one side. Arrange prompt assessment for a new persistent headache, worsening neck pain, or symptoms that spread into an arm.
