What should you know about left eye headache?

Pain may sit behind the eye, above the brow, at the temple, or across one side of the head. Screen use, an uncorrected vision problem, poor sleep, skipped meals, stress, or bright light can contribute. Nasal blockage and facial pressure can accompany a cold, allergic rhinitis, or chronic sinusitis. Migraine may bring nausea or sensitivity to light and sound. A condition does not follow from location alone; the timing, severity, triggers, and associated changes help a clinician assess it.

Rest in a quiet, dim room and take a break from close screen work. Drink water, eat if you have missed a meal, and use a cool cloth over the forehead if that feels soothing. Avoid rubbing the eye. Note when the pain began, how long it lasts, what worsens it, and whether congestion, fever, nausea, visual symptoms, or light sensitivity occur. Use only pain medicine that is suitable for you and follow its label; repeated use for frequent headaches merits medical advice.

Seek urgent medical help for a sudden severe headache, new weakness or numbness, confusion, fainting, trouble speaking, a seizure, loss of vision, a painful red eye, or repeated vomiting. Get prompt assessment after an eye injury, with a high fever and stiff neck, or when headaches are new, worsening, or unlike your usual pattern. Arrange a routine appointment if episodes keep returning or interfere with work, sleep, or daily activities.
