What should you know about LED light for stretch marks?

Stretch marks form when skin stretches and the deeper support network changes. Newer marks may look pink, red or purple, while older marks can become lighter and less active-looking. LED exposes the skin to visible light and is intended to support skin recovery; it does not resurface the skin in the way a fractional laser does.

Results depend on the mark's age, colour, location and your skin's response. A device cannot correct the underlying growth, pregnancy, weight change or muscle-building event that created the mark, and the treated area may not change evenly.

Have the area examined before treatment if the marks appeared suddenly, are unusually wide, or followed a new medicine. Ask whether LED is appropriate for your skin tone and whether a staged plan such as microneedling, RF microneedling, fractional laser treatment or carboxytherapy better matches your goal.

Use the device only as directed and protect your eyes when required. Keep the skin moisturised, avoid treating irritated or broken skin, and take consistent photographs in similar lighting if you want to compare change. Give the skin time between sessions rather than increasing exposure yourself.

Book a medical review for sudden extensive stretch marks, easy bruising, muscle weakness, unusual use of steroid medicines or other new body changes. Stop treatment and seek advice for blistering, marked swelling, persistent pain or a rash beyond the treated area.

Ask whether the marks are early or mature, what change is realistic, how many review points are planned, and whether another procedure would suit their colour and texture. Discuss pregnancy, breastfeeding, medicines and any history of raised scars before treatment.
