What should you know about leaking urine all day?

Frequent dampness may result from urgency, a bladder that cannot store urine, incomplete emptying with overflow, or weakness of the pelvic floor. A Urinary Tract Infection can cause new urgency and leakage, while Type 2 Diabetes may increase thirst and urine production. In some men, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia can obstruct flow and contribute to incomplete emptying.

Mobility, memory, constipation, medicines, previous pelvic procedures, and nerve conditions can also affect continence. Obesity may add pressure to the bladder. The pattern matters: note whether urine leaks with coughing, arrives with a sudden urge, drips continuously, or occurs because reaching the toilet is difficult.

Arrange a medical review and bring a bladder diary showing drinks, toilet visits, leaks, urgency, pain, and night-time symptoms. Protect skin with gentle washing, careful drying, and suitable absorbent products while waiting. Keep drinking a balanced amount unless a clinician has given different advice, and avoid changing prescription medicines on your own.

Get urgent help if you cannot urinate, develop severe lower abdominal pain, see blood in the urine, or have fever with flank pain. Sudden leakage with new weakness, trouble speaking, confusion, or numbness around the groin needs emergency assessment.
