Latex allergy test

Your clinician will ask what happened, how soon symptoms began, whether latex was involved and whether similar symptoms occur around foods, medicines, pets, dust or pollen. Skin testing or a blood test may be considered, but results must be interpreted alongside your history. A positive result shows sensitisation; it does not automatically prove that every exposure causes symptoms. Testing for other allergies may be useful when symptoms resemble [Allergic Rhinitis](/conditions/allergic-rhinitis/), [Allergic Conjunctivitis](/conditions/allergic-conjunctivitis/) or [Asthma](/conditions/asthma/).

Write down gloves, balloons, condoms, dental materials, medical devices or workplace products that preceded symptoms. Bring a complete medicine list because some medicines can affect skin testing or the safety plan. Do not apply latex to your skin or deliberately expose yourself to test the diagnosis. Ask the clinic which medicines to pause and for how long; follow its instructions rather than changing treatment alone. A specialist may choose blood testing when skin testing is unsuitable.

After latex exposure, seek emergency help for trouble breathing, throat swelling, faintness, collapse, widespread hives or rapidly worsening symptoms.
