Laser hair removal for white hair

Laser hair reduction depends on light being absorbed by pigment in the hair shaft and follicle. White or grey hair reflects or absorbs too little of the relevant light, so changing laser settings cannot reliably create the same response as it can with pigmented hair. A consultation can distinguish white strands from blond, grey, red or partly pigmented hairs and set realistic expectations.

The surrounding skin still absorbs some energy, so a provider should not simply increase power to compensate. Contact the provider if treated skin develops blistering, increasing pain, marked swelling or lasting dark or pale patches. Urgent help is needed for breathing difficulty, facial swelling or widespread hives.
