HS, short for hidradenitis suppurativa, can cause recurring tender lumps and draining areas in the underarms, groin, breast folds, buttocks, or other skin-fold regions. Hair reduction may make grooming easier and reduce irritation from repeated shaving, but it cannot reverse scarring or close established tunnels.
