Laser for Syringoma Treatment: What to Know

Syringomas are usually firm, skin-coloured or slightly yellow bumps caused by overgrowth of cells related to sweat ducts. They commonly appear around the lower eyelids, although similar-looking Skin Bumps can have other causes. A clinician may examine the pattern and, when uncertain, recommend a closer assessment before treating.

A laser can vaporise or heat the bump so the skin can heal with a flatter surface. The procedure does not change the tendency for new syringomas to appear. Possible short-term effects include redness, swelling, crusting and sensitivity; darker or lighter marks and scarring are less common but important to discuss, particularly in richly pigmented skin.

Choose a clinician experienced with lesions near the eyelids and ask how the eyes will be protected. Share your skin tone, history of dark marks or raised scars, allergies, medicines and previous procedures. Keep the area clean as advised, do not pick crusts, and protect healing skin from sunlight. Depending on number, size and location, the clinician may discuss CO2 Laser Resurfacing or Electrosurgery as alternatives.

Contact the treating clinic for worsening pain, increasing warmth, pus, fever, spreading redness or delayed healing. Seek urgent eye care for blurred vision, severe eye pain, marked light sensitivity or new swelling that affects the eye. Have a bump reassessed if it grows quickly, bleeds or differs from the others.
