How long does labyrinthitis last?

Labyrinthitis affects the inner ear systems that help control hearing and balance. Vertigo may be strongest when the illness begins. Unsteadiness, motion sensitivity or a spinning feeling can linger while the brain adjusts to changed signals. Hearing loss or ringing in the ears deserves particular attention because these symptoms can overlap with other inner-ear problems. A recent common cold or another infection may be relevant, but the diagnosis should not be assumed from timing alone.

Rest during the most unsettled period, rise slowly, drink regularly and avoid driving, heights or machinery while balance is unreliable. Once severe vertigo eases, gentle movement and short supported walks can help the balance system readjust; staying still for too long may slow that process.
