Kinesiology allergy testing

Applied kinesiology may involve testing muscle resistance while a person holds or is near a substance. The result can vary with technique, expectation and the person being tested, and it does not show the immune response that defines an allergy. A proper assessment combines a detailed history with examination and, when appropriate, validated skin or blood testing interpreted in context.

Allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, asthma, food allergy, pet allergy and house dust mite allergy can have overlapping symptoms. A positive result on a test does not automatically prove that an exposure causes symptoms, while an unvalidated result may lead to unnecessary avoidance or false reassurance. Allergy is different from intolerance, and suspected anaphylaxis needs emergency attention.

Record what you noticed, the suspected trigger, how quickly symptoms appeared and what happened when exposure stopped. Take this history to a clinician who can decide whether formal testing or referral is suitable. Avoid removing many foods or changing prescribed asthma or allergy treatment based only on kinesiology. If a food or medicine has caused a reaction before, ask for a clear avoidance and emergency plan.

Call emergency services immediately for trouble breathing, throat or tongue swelling, faintness, collapse, or rapidly spreading symptoms after an exposure; these can be signs of anaphylaxis. Seek prompt medical advice for recurring wheeze, persistent nasal or eye symptoms, or reactions that interfere with eating, sleep or daily activities.
