Side effects and impacts of irregular periods

You may notice late periods, skipped bleeding, spotting, heavier or lighter flow, cramps, or uncertainty about when the next cycle will start. If ovulation is infrequent, conceiving can be harder because fertile timing is less predictable. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome may occur with acne or increased facial hair, while perimenopause can bring hot flushes and sleep changes. Keep a record of dates, flow, pain, spotting, mood, and related symptoms. If fatigue follows heavy bleeding, mention it during a medical review because blood tests may be considered. Discuss contraception if pregnancy is not wanted, or fertility support if pregnancy is a goal. Arrange care when irregularity persists, bleeding repeatedly occurs between periods, periods stop, pain worsens, or symptoms interfere with daily life.
