How long does a liver function test take to work for hepatitis A?

Liver function testing checks markers such as enzymes and bilirubin, which can rise when the liver is inflamed. These findings do not identify hepatitis A on their own. Diagnosis commonly involves a separate blood test for evidence of recent infection, interpreted with symptoms and exposure history. Results can change during the illness, so one report may not describe the whole course.

Ask the clinic when your report will be ready and arrange a review of the full set of results. Rest, drink fluids if you can and follow advice about food, medicines and avoiding alcohol. Check before taking over-the-counter pain medicines or supplements because some can add strain to the liver. Follow hygiene advice carefully, particularly handwashing after using the toilet and before preparing food.

Get urgent help for confusion, unusual sleepiness, repeated vomiting, severe abdominal pain, bleeding, fainting or inability to keep fluids down. Seek prompt review if jaundice becomes more intense, urine becomes very dark, or you are passing very little urine.
