Home remedy for a venous lake on the lip

A venous lake is a soft blue, purple, or dark spot caused by a widened superficial vein, often on a sun-exposed lip. It may look flatter when pressed and refill when pressure is released. Similar-looking marks can have other causes, so a clinician should confirm the diagnosis, especially if the spot is new or changing. Picking, squeezing, burning, or applying acids can injure the lip and create bleeding or scarring.

Leave the area alone and use a lip product with sun protection when outdoors. Protect it from biting, abrasive scrubs, and repeated rubbing. If it bleeds after accidental trauma, apply gentle continuous pressure with clean gauze until bleeding stops; seek help if it does not settle.
