Home remedies for bald spots

A smooth round patch may occur with alopecia areata, while scaling, broken hairs, itching or tenderness can suggest scalp ringworm. Hair may also thin after pulling, tight hairstyles, irritation or skin inflammation. The appearance and location help a clinician distinguish these possibilities; a bald patch itself does not establish the cause.

Wash the scalp gently, avoid scratching, and pause tight styles, harsh chemicals, heat and vigorous brushing over the area. Do not apply garlic, undiluted essential oils, steroid creams or another person’s medicine. Take a clear photograph and note when the patch began, whether it is enlarging, and whether hairs are breaking. These details can make an assessment more useful.

Arrange a dermatology review for a new, spreading or persistent patch, especially with redness, scale, pus, pain, swollen glands, broken hairs or loss of eyebrows. Seek prompt care if the scalp is very tender, rapidly changing, or you feel unwell. Early assessment matters because some causes need prescription treatment and untreated infection can spread.
