What should you know about a Hitachi MRI scanner?

MRI does not use ionising radiation. The scanner creates a magnetic field and sends radio waves through the body; a computer turns the returning signals into images. Different sequences highlight tissues in different ways, which can help clinicians assess the brain, spine, joints, abdomen, pelvis, or breast.

Hitachi is a manufacturer name, not a diagnosis or a special type of cancer treatment. The exact scanner design, opening, noise level, image sequences, and use of contrast vary between facilities. A radiologist interprets the images with your symptoms, examination, and other results.

Tell the imaging team about a pacemaker or other implanted device, metal fragments, clips, pumps, hearing devices, tattoos with metal pigment, kidney problems, allergies, and possible pregnancy. Staff will check whether each implant is safe for the particular scanner. Remove metal objects and follow instructions about clothing, food, and medicines.

You will need to keep still while the table moves through the scanner. The machine makes loud tapping sounds, so hearing protection is provided. If contrast is planned, ask why it is needed and what to expect. Tell staff if enclosed spaces make you anxious; they can discuss practical support before the appointment.

Before scanning, contact the facility if you remember an implant, metal fragment, or possible pregnancy that was not included in the safety questionnaire. After contrast, seek urgent help for trouble breathing, facial swelling, fainting, or a rapidly spreading rash. Report new severe pain or symptoms that concern you after the examination.
