What should you know about heat pimples?

Short answer
Heat pimples are pimple-like bumps that may follow sweat, friction, blocked pores, or inflamed follicles rather than one single diagnosis.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Helpful change
- Wash after sweating and reduce friction from clothing or equipment.
- Do not
- Pick, pop, or scrub the bumps.
What these bumps can be
Heat and sweat can block or irritate follicles, especially under tight clothing, helmets, or sports equipment. Uniform itchy bumps around hairs may fit folliculitis. Blackheads, whiteheads, tender spots, and deeper lesions can fit acne; acne is a common presentation of several patterns, including hormonal acne. Redness and burning around the centre of the face may point toward rosacea, while bumps around the mouth can have another cause such as perioral dermatitis. Shaving-related ingrown hairs can produce razor bumps.
How to calm the skin
Rinse sweat away with a gentle cleanser, pat dry, and change out of damp clothing. Use breathable fabrics, clean equipment that touches the skin, and avoid heavy oily products. Do not scrub, pick, or pop the bumps. Choose non-comedogenic skincare, and introduce only one new active product at a time so irritation is easier to recognise. If breakouts persist, a clinician can match treatment to acne, folliculitis, rosacea, or another diagnosis; LED light therapy may be discussed for selected acne plans.
When a review is useful
Seek medical advice for painful deep spots, repeated pus-filled bumps, spreading redness, scarring, or a rash that does not improve after reducing heat and friction. Prompt care is appropriate with fever, rapidly increasing swelling, severe tenderness, or redness spreading from a lesion. A clinician can examine the distribution and decide whether a swab, medication review, or different treatment is needed.
Questions for your doctor
Do the bumps follow hair follicles or look more like acne? Could shaving, skincare, hormones, or heat exposure be contributing? Which routine should I use, and how long should I try it before returning?

Questions people ask
Are heat pimples the same as acne?
Not always. Sweat irritation and folliculitis can resemble acne, so the distribution and type of bump help distinguish them.
Why do bumps appear after exercise?
Sweat, warmth, occlusion, and friction can irritate follicles or trap material in pores.
