What should you know about heart angina attack?

People may describe pressure, squeezing, heaviness, burning, or tightness in the chest. Discomfort can spread to the arm, shoulder, neck, jaw, or back and may occur with breathlessness, sweating, nausea, or unusual tiredness. Stable angina often follows exertion and settles with rest or prescribed medicine. New, worsening, prolonged, or unexpected symptoms may represent an emergency rather than a familiar pattern.

Stop exercising, sit upright, and stay calm. Use prescribed angina medicine exactly as directed; do not take someone else’s medicine. If symptoms do not settle promptly, recur at rest, or feel different from usual, call emergency services and do not drive yourself. An Electrocardiogram may be part of the assessment. Do not dismiss symptoms as indigestion without medical advice.

Call emergency services for chest pressure with severe breathlessness, fainting, cold sweating, marked weakness, or pain spreading to the jaw or arm. Seek urgent help for a first episode, symptoms that are increasing, or discomfort that continues after rest and prescribed treatment. Arrange a medical review for recurring exertional symptoms, even if they stop quickly.
