How to heal a pulled groin

Short answer
A pulled groin needs a short period of protected activity followed by progressive inner-thigh strengthening, with sport resumed only when movement is controlled and comfortable.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Early focus
- Protect the area while keeping comfortable movement and a normal walking pattern.
- Later focus
- Rebuild inner-thigh strength before cutting, kicking or competitive play.
What a groin strain means
A groin strain commonly affects the adductor muscles on the inner thigh. Cutting, kicking, sudden acceleration or an awkward stretch can overload them. Pain may appear during walking, squeezing the knees together, changing direction or getting out of a car. Bruising and weakness suggest a more substantial injury, while pain near the hip, abdomen or pubic area may need a broader examination.
Groin Pain can have causes beyond a muscle strain, including hip or abdominal problems. The location, triggering movement and injury mechanism help a clinician choose the right assessment.
How to support healing
Pause kicking, sprinting, wide lunges and any movement that sharply increases pain. Keep gentle, comfortable walking if your gait is normal. In the early phase, a wrapped cold pack may ease discomfort; avoid forceful massage or stretching over a tender area. Once daily movement is easier, rehabilitation can build adductor strength with controlled exercises, then running, cutting and sport drills. Exercise Therapy and Sports Physiotherapy can guide that progression.
When to seek care
Arrange an assessment if you cannot walk without limping, felt a sudden pop, develop marked bruising or swelling, or have pain that is worsening. Seek urgent care after major trauma, with severe abdominal or groin pain, a new bulge, numbness or a cold leg. If pain keeps returning during sport or does not steadily improve, a rehabilitation review can identify strength or movement gaps before you resume full activity.
Questions for your doctor
Which structure is injured and what movements should I avoid? When can I begin adductor strengthening? How will we decide when sprinting, cutting or kicking is safe? Do I need imaging or a supervised return-to-sport plan?

Questions people ask
Should I stretch a pulled groin?
Do not force a painful stretch early on. Gentle movement may be followed by progressive flexibility and strengthening once irritability has settled.
When can I return to sport after a groin strain?
Return when walking, strengthening, running and sport-specific changes of direction are controlled without a symptom flare, ideally with clinical guidance.
