Headache at the front left side: what to know

Note whether the pain is throbbing, pressing, stabbing, or burning, and whether it builds gradually or begins abruptly. Migraine may be one-sided and may include nausea or sensitivity to light and sound. Screen use, uncorrected vision, jaw clenching, or neck tension can create pain toward the forehead. Blocked or runny nose and facial pressure can accompany [Allergic Rhinitis](/conditions/allergic-rhinitis/), a cold, or [Chronic Sinusitis](/conditions/chronic-sinusitis/). These symptoms do not prove a sinus cause, and a left-sided headache is not, by itself, a sign of a dangerous condition.

Rest in a calm, dim room if light or noise worsens the pain. Drink fluids, eat if you have missed a meal, and take a break from close screen work. Relax your jaw and shoulders and use a cool cloth if that feels soothing. Keep a record of timing, food, sleep, stress, periods, medicines, and related symptoms. Use over-the-counter pain medicine only as directed; frequent use can itself contribute to recurring headaches, so discuss a repeated pattern with a clinician.

Call emergency services for a sudden severe headache, new weakness or numbness, facial drooping, speech or vision change, fainting, confusion, seizure, or headache after a head injury. Seek urgent care for severe headache with fever and stiff neck, repeated vomiting, or a painful red eye with vision change. Arrange a review if headaches are new, progressively more frequent, or interfering with daily activities.
