What should you know about hard white bumps around the eyes?

Milia are firm, pale keratin-filled cysts that commonly appear on thin eyelid or cheek skin and are usually not tender. Acne, folliculitis, rosacea, or perioral dermatitis can cause bumps with redness, itching, burning, or surrounding spots. Eye creams, makeup, sunscreen, rubbing, and hair-removal practices may worsen congestion or irritation, but the appearance does not establish a cause.

Pay attention to whether the bumps are on the eyelid margin, under the eye, or on the cheek; whether they are clustered; and whether the eye itself is affected. That distinction helps decide whether dermatology or eye care is more suitable.

Wash the area with a mild cleanser and remove makeup gently. Avoid squeezing, scraping, home extraction tools, essential oils, and acne medicines too close to the eye unless prescribed for that area. Use clean cosmetics and stop any product that clearly stings. A dermatologist can discuss safe extraction or a treatment plan; LED light therapy may be relevant for selected inflammatory acne concerns, not for every white bump.

Get prompt medical advice for eye pain, vision change, light sensitivity, marked eyelid swelling, pus, fever, or redness spreading around the eye. Arrange a routine review for persistent, multiplying, bleeding, or repeatedly irritated bumps. Sudden swelling with breathing difficulty requires emergency help.
