Hair loss due to psoriasis: what to know

Scalp psoriasis can cause raised plaques, silvery scale, itch, soreness, and cracking. Rubbing or picking firmly attached scale can pull out hairs, and inflammation may interrupt the normal growth cycle. Hair may look thinner around active plaques or shed more broadly after a flare. Hair loss from uncomplicated scalp psoriasis is often non-scarring, but long-standing inflammation, infection, or another diagnosis can change the outlook.
