What is good for stretch marks?

Short answer

Good stretch-mark care depends on their age, colour, location, and your skin type; professional treatments may soften texture and contrast.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What stretch marks are

Stretch marks are lines that develop when skin stretches or changes more quickly than its supporting fibres adapt. They may begin pink, red, purple, or dark and often become lighter and less noticeable over time. Pregnancy, growth, weight change, muscle gain, and some medicines can be associated with them. They are harmless in most cases, but appearance concerns are valid.

Ways to improve their appearance

Moisturiser can reduce dryness and make the surface feel smoother, but it does not rebuild stretched skin. A dermatologist may discuss Microneedling, RF Microneedling, Fractional Laser Treatment, or Carboxytherapy after examining colour, texture, location, and skin tone. Several sessions may be needed, and gradual change is more realistic than complete removal. Avoid unregulated products and tell the clinician about pregnancy, breastfeeding, keloid scars, or recent tanning.

When to seek care

Arrange a medical review if marks appear suddenly over a large area, become painful, bruise easily, or occur with muscle weakness or other unexplained symptoms. Seek advice before using prescription creams if pregnant or trying to conceive. A review is also sensible when a mark is one-sided, inflamed, or changing in a way that does not fit ordinary stretch marks.

Questions for your doctor

Ask which treatment fits the mark’s colour and texture, how your skin tone affects pigment risk, how many visits may be considered, and what recovery involves. Discuss scars, active skin disease, medicines, tanning, and the result you would consider worthwhile.

Questions people ask

Can cream remove stretch marks?

Creams can moisturise and improve comfort, but established stretch marks usually need realistic expectations and may respond better to professional care.

Which procedure is best?

There is no single choice for everyone; colour, texture, skin tone, location, and medical history guide the discussion.
