What should you know about Globus pedicle screws?

Globus is the manufacturer name; a pedicle screw describes where and how the screw is placed. The screw passes into the strong bony part of a vertebra called the pedicle and is connected to a rod. The assembled hardware can support alignment and limit unwanted movement while a fusion heals. The implant is selected according to the spinal level, bone anatomy and operation being performed.

The screws do not repair every cause of back pain by themselves. Scoliosis correction, fracture stabilisation and spinal fusion may use similar hardware, but the surgical goal differs in each person.

Ask which vertebrae received screws, what the rods are intended to achieve and whether the operation included a fusion. Follow the surgeon's movement, wound and lifting instructions, because restrictions depend on the procedure and your healing progress. Keep follow-up visits so the team can assess symptoms, wound healing and spinal alignment. Do not change activity or stop prescribed medicine based only on the implant brand.

Contact the surgical team promptly for increasing wound redness, drainage, fever, new weakness, worsening numbness or pain that is markedly different from the expected recovery pattern. Seek urgent help for new loss of bladder or bowel control, severe weakness in both legs or sudden trouble walking. These symptoms need assessment for causes that may or may not involve the hardware.
