What should you know about fractional micro needle RF?

A handpiece places fine needles into the skin and delivers radiofrequency energy at a planned depth. The combination of needle injury and heat is intended to stimulate remodelling in selected tissue. It may be discussed for texture, acne scars, pores, or some laxity concerns, but suitability depends on the diagnosis and the device settings.

Expected reactions include redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, tenderness, temporary roughness, and small crusts. Pigment changes can occur after inflammation, especially when skin is exposed to ultraviolet light or when settings are too aggressive for the skin. Results develop over time and are not identical for every person.

Tell the clinician about melasma, active acne, eczema, infection, cold sores, raised scars, implanted electronic devices, medicines that affect bleeding, and recent tanning. Discuss whether the planned depth and energy are suitable for your skin tone and concern. Do not treat over broken or inflamed skin unless specifically directed by a clinician.

After the session, keep the area clean, avoid picking crusts, and use the recommended bland skincare and sun protection. Pause exfoliating acids, retinoids, and other irritating products until advised. Avoid heat, friction, swimming, and makeup for the period specified by the clinic.

Contact the clinic if redness spreads, pain increases, swelling worsens, or the area becomes warm, develops pus, or is associated with fever. Ask for prompt assessment if new dark or pale patches are progressing, blisters form, or healing is delayed. Any eye pain or vision change after treatment near the eyes needs urgent review.

Ask which device, needle type, depth, and energy settings will be used, what concern is being targeted, and how this compares with laser or standard microneedling. Discuss pigment risk, downtime, active skincare, sun protection, and the plan for treating a flare of melasma or another skin condition.
