FET after miscarriage

A miscarriage can leave bleeding, pregnancy tissue, or changing pregnancy hormones for a while. Before transfer, the team may confirm that the uterus is empty, infection is not suspected, and the lining has recovered. A transvaginal ultrasound can help assess the uterus when clinically indicated.

The cause of a miscarriage is not always found, and one loss does not automatically mean another will happen. Your clinician may review the pregnancy history, medical conditions, medicines, and any available test results before recommending a transfer plan.

Follow the follow-up plan after the loss and wait for your fertility team to confirm when treatment can restart. Ask whether you need a scan, blood test, or treatment for retained tissue before preparing the womb lining. Medical management or surgical management may be options when tissue remains, depending on your symptoms and clinical findings.

Give yourself space to process the loss. Counselling, a trusted support person, or a pregnancy-loss support service can help. When you are ready, review medicines, folic acid, thyroid or diabetes care, and the plan for progesterone or other prescribed treatment.

Seek urgent care for heavy bleeding, severe or worsening abdominal pain, fever, chills, foul-smelling discharge, dizziness, or fainting after a miscarriage. Contact your clinic if bleeding or pain continues or if a pregnancy test remains positive longer than expected, because follow-up may be needed before transfer.

Ask: Has the miscarriage fully resolved? Do I need an ultrasound or blood test? When is my uterus ready for transfer? Should anything change in my medicines or embryo plan? What support is available if I feel anxious about trying again?
