Feeling headache: what you should know

Short answer
A headache can result from tension, dehydration, heat, infection, sinus symptoms, or migraine, but a sudden or unusual headache needs prompt assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

How to understand the symptom
Describe where the pain is, whether it is pressure or throbbing, how quickly it began, and what makes it better or worse. Blocked or runny nose and facial pressure can occur with Allergic Rhinitis, Chronic Sinusitis, or a Common Cold. Headache may accompany COVID-19, while fluid loss and heat exposure can contribute through Dehydration or Heat Exhaustion. Dengue Fever can cause headache with fever, body aches, rash, or nausea. Anxiety can also tighten scalp and neck muscles. A symptom pattern does not confirm any one condition.
Practical steps
Rest somewhere quiet, drink fluids, eat if you have missed a meal, and reduce bright screens while the pain settles. Keep a record of timing, sleep, caffeine, food, heat exposure, medicines, and associated symptoms. Use only pain relief that is suitable for you and follow its label; repeated use can itself contribute to frequent headaches. Arrange a review if headaches recur, change pattern, interfere with normal activity, or need frequent medicine.
Urgent warning signs
Seek emergency care for a sudden, severe headache; headache after a significant head injury; new weakness, numbness, trouble speaking, seizure, collapse, confusion, or vision loss; or headache with a stiff neck and marked illness. Get prompt help for persistent vomiting, severe dehydration, or a headache during pregnancy with visual symptoms or high blood pressure concerns.
Questions to take along
What pattern does my headache suggest? Could my medicines, sleep, vision, hydration, or caffeine be contributing? What warning signs should change my plan, and what treatment is appropriate for me?
