How to fade stretch marks

Stretch marks develop when the deeper skin layers are stretched or change quickly, allowing streak-like lines to appear. Early marks may be red, pink, purple, or darker than nearby skin; older marks often become lighter and slightly indented. They can occur after pregnancy, growth, weight change, muscle gain, or some hormonal medicines. They are common and not a sign that the skin has been poorly cared for.

Moisturiser can relieve dryness and itch, but it does not rebuild the deeper scar by itself. Avoid tanning and use sun protection so colour contrast is less noticeable. A dermatologist may discuss microneedling, fractional laser treatment, RF microneedling, or carboxytherapy, depending on whether colour, indentation, or texture is the main concern. Results depend on the age and appearance of the marks, your skin type, and how it heals. Treatment may require a planned series and careful aftercare.

Ask for an examination if marks appear suddenly without a clear stretch or growth trigger, are broad and numerous, or occur with easy bruising, muscle weakness, or prolonged use of steroid medicine. A clinician can check whether the lines are ordinary stretch marks or part of another skin or hormonal concern.
