Exon 20 lung cancer

Exon 20 is a section of a gene involved in cell instructions. A change there can alter how a growth-related protein behaves. The wording on a report matters: different exon 20 changes can have different treatment implications, so the exact gene and variant should be recorded. This finding does not by itself state the cancer stage, predict an individual outcome, or explain every symptom. Ask whether Genomic Tumour Profiling has defined the exact exon 20 variant and whether the result came from tumour tissue or blood. Your oncology team can explain whether a matched medicine, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, surgery such as Lung Lobectomy, or a combination is appropriate. Follow the monitoring plan for scans, blood tests and symptoms. Keep a current list of medicines and tell clinicians about heart or lung conditions, allergies and pregnancy plans. Treatment may be revisited if the cancer changes.

Report increasing breathlessness, fever, persistent diarrhoea, a new rash, eye changes, or unusual swelling to your care team. Seek urgent help for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting, seizure, sudden weakness, or new confusion. A persistent Hoarse Voice should also be assessed. Neurological symptoms can arise for several reasons, including Brain Metastases, so do not wait for a routine appointment if they appear suddenly.
