Exercises to Relieve Tennis Elbow

Short answer
Exercises to relieve tennis elbow should build forearm capacity gradually while avoiding sharp pain and excessive gripping loads.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Target
- Controlled wrist and forearm loading
- Modify
- Forceful gripping and painful lifting
What is being loaded
Tennis elbow is an irritation or overload problem involving tendons that help extend the wrist and fingers. Elbow Pain may spread into the outer forearm, and gripping a cup, lifting a bag or turning a handle can be difficult. Forearm Pain or a Weak Grip can occur, but these symptoms can have other causes, so exercise response alone cannot confirm the diagnosis.
Build tolerance in stages
Begin with slow wrist extension and flexion using the other hand for support. Progress to an isometric hold: keep the wrist steady against gentle resistance without moving it. Later, use a light object for wrist extension, lifting slowly and lowering more slowly. Add relaxed grip practice rather than repeated forceful squeezing. Keep the elbow and shoulder relaxed, and reduce repetitions if symptoms remain aggravated after practice. Exercise Therapy or Physiotherapy can help select the starting load and correct technique. Injections such as Cortisone Injection or PRP Injection may be discussed in selected situations, but they do not replace a careful assessment.
When to pause and get help
Arrange assessment if pain follows a fall, the elbow looks deformed, movement is suddenly restricted or grip weakness is progressing. Seek urgent care for new widespread numbness, a cold or discoloured hand, severe swelling or inability to use the arm. Review the plan if symptoms persist despite reducing aggravating tasks.
Make the visit useful
Does my examination fit tennis elbow or another source of elbow pain? Which resistance level is suitable, and how should I modify work, sport or lifting while the tendon settles?

Questions people ask
Should stretching be painful?
No. Use a comfortable stretch and stop if it produces sharp pain, tingling or a flare that lasts beyond the session.
How can I tell whether the exercises are too hard?
Increasing pain, weaker grip or worse daily function later that day suggests the load or volume needs adjustment.
