The panel may include inhaled allergens, foods, or other substances. A positive IgE result shows sensitisation, which means the immune system recognises an allergen; it does not by itself prove that exposure causes your symptoms. A negative result does not rule out every allergy or non-allergic cause.

Your history remains central: timing, symptoms, exposure, examination, and medicines help a clinician interpret the report. Results may support assessment of allergic rhinitis, itchy or watery eyes, asthma, food allergy, or reactions to pets and house dust mites.

Before testing, list symptoms, suspected triggers, foods, pets, workplace exposures, and any reaction involving breathing or faintness. Ask which allergens are included and whether the result will change your management. Do not remove several foods or stop essential medicines solely because a report lists sensitisation.

Call emergency services for sudden trouble breathing, throat or tongue swelling, widespread hives with dizziness, collapse, or repeated vomiting after an exposure. These can be signs of anaphylaxis. Do not wait for allergy-test results when a severe reaction is happening.

Ask which allergens were tested, whether the result shows sensitisation or a likely clinical allergy, how medicines affect interpretation, and whether another assessment is needed. Ask for an emergency plan if you have had breathing symptoms, faintness, or rapid symptoms after exposure.
