What after-care is needed after an ectopic pregnancy?

After medicine or surgery, the pregnancy hormone level must fall as expected. Your team may arrange blood tests until it has cleared. Following surgery, soreness, tiredness and light bleeding can occur, while recovery time depends on the procedure and your health. A transvaginal ultrasound may be used if symptoms or test results need further investigation.

Grief, anxiety and mixed feelings are common after pregnancy loss. Speaking with a trusted person or counsellor can help; emotional recovery does not always match physical healing.

Take prescribed medicines as directed, keep wounds clean if you had surgery, and follow instructions about activity, sex and bathing. Avoid strenuous activity until your clinical team says it is suitable. Ask when contraception can be started and when it is medically reasonable to plan another pregnancy. Request support if sleep, mood or daily functioning remains affected.

Seek urgent care for increasing abdominal or pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, severe dizziness, fever, worsening wound redness, or feeling suddenly unwell. These symptoms can indicate bleeding, infection or pregnancy tissue that needs further treatment.
