Early ovulation after miscarriage

Pregnancy hormones can remain in the body for a while, and cycle timing may be difficult to predict. Bleeding after a miscarriage is part of recovery and is not necessarily a menstrual period. Ovulation can occur before that first true period, even when cycles have not settled. A home pregnancy test may stay positive while hormones are falling, so a positive result does not by itself prove a new pregnancy. Your clinician may use symptoms, repeat testing or a transvaginal ultrasound to check that the miscarriage is complete and assess unexpected bleeding or pain.

If you want to avoid pregnancy, use contraception as soon as your clinician says it is suitable. If you hope to conceive, ask when it is medically and emotionally appropriate to try, especially after treatment or complications. Track bleeding, pain, cervical mucus and any pregnancy-test results, but do not rely on calendar timing alone during an unsettled cycle. Follow the aftercare plan you were given; management may involve medicines, a procedure or observation depending on what remains in the uterus.

Contact urgent care for heavy bleeding, severe or worsening abdominal pain, faintness, fever, chills, or feeling markedly unwell. Seek advice for persistent bleeding, unpleasant-smelling discharge, a pregnancy test that remains positive when you were told it should fall, or new pain after it had improved. These signs need assessment because infection, retained pregnancy tissue or another problem can require treatment.
