Does PRP for hair loss treat telogen effluvium?

Telogen effluvium is a shedding pattern that can follow illness, major stress, surgery, rapid weight change, nutritional strain, or hormonal shifts. The follicles are often cycling through a temporary change rather than following the gradual pattern seen in inherited hair loss.

PRP injections may be discussed in selected situations, but they do not remove the event that triggered shedding. A careful history and examination help distinguish telogen effluvium from pattern loss, patchy conditions, or scalp inflammation.

Write down when shedding began and what happened beforehand, including fever, infection, childbirth, emotional strain, dieting, or a new medicine. Eat regularly, avoid tight styles and harsh chemical processing, and follow a clinician’s plan for any suspected deficiency or illness.

Seek assessment promptly when shedding is very sudden, patchy, painful, itchy, inflamed, or accompanied by sores or heavy scale. Ongoing worsening, eyebrow loss, or other unexplained symptoms also warrants review rather than assuming temporary shedding.
