Does migraine cause headache?

Migraine pain may throb or pulse, affect one or both sides, and worsen with routine movement. Nausea, vomiting, visual changes, dizziness, light sensitivity, or sound sensitivity can accompany it. Some attacks involve aura before the pain, while other migraine episodes cause little or no head pain. A clinical diagnosis considers the pattern, associated symptoms, and examination rather than headache alone.

At the first sign, pause strenuous activity and rest somewhere quiet and dim. Drink water if you are able, eat regularly when possible, and follow any treatment plan given by your clinician. Keep a diary of sleep, meals, stress, medicines, cycle-related changes, and symptoms to identify personal triggers. Arrange medical advice when headaches are frequent, difficult to control, or affecting work, sleep, or daily life.

Seek urgent care for a sudden severe headache, new weakness or numbness, trouble speaking, confusion, fainting, new vision loss, seizure, fever with a stiff neck, repeated vomiting, or headache after a head injury. A new headache during pregnancy or with a serious medical condition also warrants prompt advice.
