Does melanoma cause changing mole?

Most people with Melanoma notice changing mole. Change may involve a mole becoming asymmetrical, developing an uneven edge, showing several colours, enlarging, or becoming raised. It may also itch, bleed, crust, or feel different. These features can help a clinician decide which spots need closer examination, but they cannot confirm melanoma by themselves.

Request prompt medical review when a changing mole bleeds without a clear injury, forms a persistent crust, becomes painful, or changes quickly. Seek urgent help for uncontrolled bleeding, rapidly spreading redness, or signs of infection around a recently injured spot.
