Does acute bronchitis cause cough?

Acute bronchitis is short-term inflammation of the larger breathing tubes. The inflamed airways become sensitive, so coughing helps move mucus and irritants. Get urgent help for severe breathing difficulty, blue or grey lips, confusion, coughing blood, or chest pain that is severe or persistent. Seek prompt medical advice for breathlessness, dehydration, a fever that does not settle, or a cough in someone with significant lung disease.
