Dioralyte for dehydration: what to know

Dioralyte is an oral rehydration solution containing fluid and salts in a balance that helps the intestine absorb water. It can be useful after sweating, vomiting, or diarrhoea. Dehydration may occur with Gastroenteritis, Heat Exhaustion, Kidney Stones, or a Urinary Tract Infection. Dark Urine, cloudy urine, constipation, thirst, dizziness, and reduced urination can be clues, but symptoms need context.

Prepare each sachet exactly as directed using clean water and the stated volume. Sip it steadily rather than drinking a large amount quickly. Rest somewhere cool if heat contributed, and continue normal fluids as tolerated. Do not alter the mixture or add extra powder. A pharmacist or clinician can advise about children, pregnancy, kidney problems, heart conditions, or medicines that affect fluid balance.

Seek urgent help for confusion, fainting, extreme weakness, very little urine, inability to drink, repeated vomiting, or worsening dizziness. Heat-related illness with altered behaviour or collapse is an emergency. Arrange review if dehydration follows persistent diarrhoea, painful urination, blood in urine, or severe side pain, because treating the trigger may be necessary.
