Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra Treatment

DPN is a benign type of raised skin growth. Treatment can target individual papules that catch on clothing, interfere with shaving, become irritated, or concern you cosmetically. It does not change the underlying tendency to develop DPN, so additional lesions can appear later.

A dermatologist chooses an approach after considering the papule's thickness, number, position, and your skin's response to previous injuries. A dark or changing lesion may need examination before any cosmetic procedure is planned.

Common procedural options include curettage and cautery, which removes a superficial lesion and treats the surface, and electrosurgery, which uses controlled electrical energy. The clinician may select one method or a staged approach for different areas.

After treatment, follow wound-care instructions, avoid picking, and keep the area protected while it heals. Redness, a small crust, tenderness, and a temporary change in colour can occur. People prone to dark marks or raised scars should discuss this before treatment so the plan and expectations are clear.

Arrange assessment before treatment if a papule changes rapidly, bleeds, crusts repeatedly, is persistently painful, or does not heal. After a procedure, contact the clinic for worsening pain, spreading redness, heat, swelling, pus-like discharge, or bleeding that continues despite advised pressure.
