What should you know about dermatitis atopica perioral?

Perioral dermatitis is an inflammatory rash around the mouth that may extend toward the nose or eyes. It can look like clusters of small pimples, red bumps, dryness, burning or tightness, while the skin immediately beside the lip border may remain relatively clear. Cosmetics, heavy creams, toothpaste ingredients, masks and topical corticosteroids may aggravate it. The pattern can resemble acne or contact irritation, so an examination helps distinguish them.

Keep the routine simple: use lukewarm water or a mild cleanser, avoid scrubs and fragranced products, and pause non-essential creams around the mouth. Do not start or restart a topical corticosteroid on the area unless a clinician specifically tells you to, because stopping suddenly after repeated use may also need guidance.
