Short answer

Dengue solution means supportive care, hydration, rest and medical monitoring rather than a single curative medicine.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

Main approach
Supportive care and monitoring
Fluids
Take frequent drinks if tolerated
Medication
Use clinician-advised options only

What treatment involves

Dengue is a viral illness, so antibiotics do not treat the virus. A clinician may assess your symptoms, hydration and blood results, then decide how closely you need to be followed. Fever, headache, muscle aches and joint pain can occur together. Use only medicines advised by a clinician, because some painkillers can increase bleeding risk. Avoid alcohol and strenuous activity while you are unwell.

Fluids can include water or an oral rehydration drink if you can swallow normally. Small, frequent drinks may be easier when nausea or poor appetite is present. Rest in a cool room and keep a record of new symptoms, drinking and urination to share at a consultation.

Practical steps at home

Arrange a GP Consultation if dengue is suspected or symptoms are worsening. Follow the dose and timing advice you receive, and do not start aspirin, ibuprofen or another anti-inflammatory medicine unless a clinician specifically tells you to. Protect yourself and others from mosquito bites during illness by using repellent, covering skin and resting under a net where possible; a mosquito can acquire the virus from an infected person and pass it on later.

If you develop easy bruising, note where it appears and whether it is increasing. Do not donate blood while ill, and tell healthcare staff about recent travel or a possible mosquito exposure.

When to seek urgent help

Seek urgent medical care for severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding from the nose or gums, blood in vomit or stool, marked weakness, confusion, breathing difficulty, fainting, cold clammy skin or very little urine. Warning signs can appear as fever settles, so feeling cooler does not by itself mean the illness is over. If you cannot keep fluids down, contact a clinician promptly.

Questions for your doctor

Ask which pain or fever medicine is suitable for you, how much fluid to aim for, whether blood tests need repeating, and which warning signs require emergency care. Ask when you can safely return to work, exercise or travel.

Questions people ask

Is there a specific cure for dengue?

There is no single medicine that removes dengue virus; care focuses on fluids, rest, symptom control and watching for complications.

Can I take any painkiller?

Use only a medicine recommended for you. Some common anti-inflammatory painkillers can increase bleeding risk during dengue.
