What should you know about dengue fever at night?

Body temperature naturally changes across the day, and a quiet bedroom can make headache, muscle aches and joint pain more noticeable. Chills may occur while a fever is rising, followed by sweating as the body cools. Night-time worsening alone is not a distinctive dengue feature; other infections and causes of fever can follow a similar pattern. Dengue may include rash, nausea, easy bruising or bleeding, so the full symptom pattern and recent mosquito exposure matter.

Keep water or an oral rehydration drink nearby and take small, regular sips if you can. Rest in a cool, comfortable room, use light clothing and record temperature, fluids, urine output and new symptoms. Use only fever or pain medicine recommended for you; avoid aspirin and ibuprofen until dengue has been considered. Ask someone to check on you if you feel weak, confused or unable to drink, and arrange a GP Consultation for assessment.

Seek urgent care during the night for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, black stools, breathing difficulty, fainting, confusion, extreme restlessness, cold or clammy skin, or very little urine. A drop in fever does not by itself show that dengue is improving. Young children, pregnant people, older adults and people with chronic illness should obtain medical advice early.
