What should you know about dark skin on back of neck diabetes?

Acanthosis nigricans often looks darker, thicker, and velvety in a skin fold such as the back of the neck. It can be associated with insulin resistance and other metabolic factors, but a dark neck does not by itself diagnose diabetes. Medicines, hormonal conditions, and less common skin disorders can produce similar changes. A clinician may examine other folds and decide whether health checks are appropriate.
