What should you know about a COVID-19 PCR test?

PCR testing uses a sample, usually collected from the nose or throat, and amplifies genetic material so the laboratory can look for the virus. A positive result supports current or recent infection, but the result should be considered alongside symptoms, exposure, and the test timing.
