Corkscrew Suture Anchor

Short answer

A corkscrew suture anchor secures surgical stitches to bone during selected soft-tissue repairs.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

The short answer

The surgeon inserts the threaded anchor into bone and uses its attached or loaded sutures to hold a tendon, ligament or labrum near the intended attachment site while healing occurs.

How the implant supports repair

Corkscrew describes a threaded anchor design rather than a separate operation. Anchor material, size, placement and suture arrangement are selected for the bone, tissue and repair pattern. The anchor provides fixation, but healing still depends on the repaired tissue joining securely to bone.

These anchors may be used in procedures around the shoulder and other joints. The operation name and repaired structure matter more to recovery instructions than the anchor's brand or shape.

What to do after surgery

Follow the surgeon's restrictions for sling or brace use, wound care, movement and loading. Do not test the repair with forceful lifting or stretching simply because pain has eased; tissue healing and symptom relief do not always progress together.

Attend rehabilitation as arranged. Early therapy may protect the repair while maintaining permitted movement, and later work can rebuild mobility, control and strength according to the specific procedure.

When to seek help after repair

Contact the surgical team for increasing redness, drainage, fever, worsening pain, a new loss of movement or a sudden change after a fall or forceful movement. Seek urgent care for severe swelling, breathing difficulty, chest pain, or a limb that becomes cold, pale or markedly numb.

Questions for your surgeon

Ask which tissue will be repaired, what the anchor is made from, whether it remains in the body, which movements could stress the fixation and how the rehabilitation plan will change as healing advances.

Questions people ask

Can I feel a suture anchor under the skin?

An anchor is seated in bone and is not generally intended to be a surface feature. A new lump, prominent area or focal pain should be assessed by the surgical team.

Does an anchor mean I can move the joint normally straight away?

No. The fixation needs protection while tissue heals to bone, so movement and loading follow procedure-specific restrictions.
