Contec 3-channel ECG machine explained

An ECG machine uses small adhesive electrodes on the skin to detect electrical signals generated by each heartbeat. A three-channel format displays grouped signals together, helping the clinician review rhythm, rate, and the pattern of electrical conduction. The device records information; it does not diagnose a condition by itself.

A recording may be requested for symptoms such as palpitations, chest discomfort, fainting, breathlessness, or an irregular pulse. Wear clothing that allows access to the chest, arms, and legs, and tell the clinician about medicines, implanted devices, skin sensitivity, or chest hair that may affect electrode placement. Stay still, breathe normally, and avoid talking during the recording unless the clinician asks a question. The test is usually brief; removing the electrodes may leave temporary skin redness.

An ECG appointment should not delay emergency care. Seek urgent help for new or severe chest pain, fainting, severe breathlessness, blue or grey lips, or a fast or irregular heartbeat with weakness or dizziness. A normal tracing does not explain every symptom, so report ongoing or returning symptoms to a clinician.
