What should you know about constant itch in throat causing cough?

An itchy throat can trigger a dry cough through sensitive nerves in the throat and upper airways. Allergic rhinitis may add sneezing, a blocked nose, or mucus drainage. A common cold or acute bronchitis can irritate the airway during and after infection. Acid reflux may cause a cough after meals, when bending, or at night. Asthma can cause cough, wheeze, chest tightness, or breathlessness. Other airway conditions, including bronchiectasis, need consideration when cough is long-lasting or brings up frequent mucus. A cough with an itchy throat does not identify one cause by itself.
